In the seven game season for Young he finished with two interceptions, 11 tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one start at strong safety. In week five Young returned an interception 75yds for the longest and first UFL defensive touchdown in the inaugural season. Jim Fassel and the Locos were crowned Champions of the UFL after defeating the Florida Tuskers in the Championship game.
Young played in three games, having two starts. Five tackles, one forced fumble, and one interception before being placed on IR.
Young lead Calgary in tackles with 77, intercptions with four, defensive touchdowns with three, and three fumble recoveries.
Appeared in the secondary for the first 15 games of the regular season and the Scotiabank West Semifinal. Recorded 39 tackles on defence and six on special teams. Also registered two fumble recoveries (tied for third on the team), two interceptions (tied for third on the team), three pass knockdowns (tied for second on the team), two tackles for a loss and a forced fumble.
Young played in 17 regular season games and the Scotiabank West Semifinal. He played his first regular season CFL game on July 7, against Winnipeg. He recorded one of his best games in Hamilton on September 17, picking up one defensive tackle, one special teams tackle and one quarterback sack. Early in the game Young made a devastating hit on Hamilton's receiver D.J. Flick, with a 30 yard pass attempt to set the tone of the game.
Young attended The University of Montana Grizzlies from 1998 to 2002(redshirted in 1998). He played in 45 games -- starting 35. He recorded 250 tackles (140 solo), 22 sacks, five forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, 18 knockdowns and four interceptions. He was the Grizzlies' Outstanding Player of the Year in his freshman, sophomore and junior seasons. He was named All-Big Sky Conference Selection in 2000, 2001 and 2002. In 2002 he was named Big Sky Conference DefensiveMVP, defensive team captain and finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, which is presented annually to the best defensive player in 1-AA conference. Young also was an Associated Press first team All-Americanand American Football Coaches Association first team All-American selection. He was first-team All American Big Sky Player of the Week (Sept. 2 and Oct. 4.) He also led the conference in fumble recoveries (three) and forced fumbles (three). In 2001 he was named "Junior of the Year" on defense for Montana (2001 I-AA National Champs).
