McCarty started 3 of 18 2008 regular season games and the Eastern Conference Final. McCarty did more than just fill in when starting running back AJ Harris was injured on September 13, earning CFL Canadian Player of the Week honors for that game. He finished the season with 88 carries for 490 yards (5.6 ypc), four TDs and 70 receptions for 583 yards, one TD. He earned his first CFL start on October 4th versus Winnipeg and again received Canadian Player of the Week honors. He continues to be a force on special teams with 11 special teams tackles. In the Eastern Semi-Final game he hauled in seven catches for 52 yards. In the East Final he started at running back and had four catches for 14 yards. McCarty has played 40 consecutive games since joining the Eskimos in 2007.
McCarty played in 18 games his Rookie season, rushing 6 times for 13 yards and making 7 receptions for 99 yards. His first career touchdown was a spectacular catch versus Saskatchewan on October 26, which was the Highlight of the Night and #9 on TSN’s Top 10 One-Handed Plays of All Time. McCarty was a Second-Team North Central Conference All-Star in 2006. He started the first seven games for the Vikings before suffering a season-ending foot fracture. McCarty was ranked fifth among NCC rushing leaders with 492 yards (70.3 avg. per game) and 5 TDs on 130 carries, with long of 46 yards. He also caught 30 passes for 278 yards, with long of 32 (4.3 receptions per game, ninth in NCC). He had an all-purpose yardage total of 770 (110.0 avg. per game, sixth in NCC) In the season opener at Humboldt State McCarty ran for three TDs (the most by a Viking player since 2002) and 139 yards on 30 carries. He was awarded the WWU Offensive Player of the Game 3 of the 7 games he played.
McCarty had 620 rushing yards, 500 receiving yards and scored 14 TDs as sophomore for the Tigers, helping them to 10-1 record, a Valley Conference championship and No.5 ranking in final national poll (rated No.1 for last six weeks of regular season). The Tigers lost to San Francisco City College, 44-40, in the NorCal Championship game.
2004: McCarty played one season for the Broncos running 10 times for 104 yards and 1 touchdown. The Broncos finished 11-1, winning the Western Athletic Conference championship and finished ranked No.12 in final AP Poll after losing 44-40 to Louisville in Liberty Bowl on New Year's Eve. 2003 McCarty was a Redshirt for the Broncos.
Calvin McCarty was the B.C. Provincial Player of the Year as senior at STMC (Burnaby, B.C.). As a senior McCarty ran for 2,400 yards and scored 33 touchdowns in nine games (266.7 yds/game avg.) He had 380 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns in 21-20 loss to eventual champion W.J. Mouat Senior Secondary in the Class 3A quarterfinals of the B.C. high school playoffs. He also helped the Knights to provincial championships as freshman and sophomore and semifinals as junior. He was named MVP of the Varsity Provincial Championship game as a sophomore, making him the youngest player ever to receive that honor.
